UUMFE Announces Rev. Karyn Marsh as Board Secretary
Rev. Karyn Bergmann Marsh has been serving Earth in various capacities her entire adult life, first as an environmental geologist, then as an environmental attorney, and now as a Unitarian Universalist minister and board-certified chaplain. Currently, she is the developmental minister for First Unitarian Church of Baltimore. Rev. Marsh joined the UU Ministry for Earth Board of Directors in late 2025 as the Secretary.
We’re grateful to have her on our team, helping us work toward our mission of being a seedbed for spiritual grounding and education that inspires deep practices of Earth care, justice and flourishing for all.
"Artificial Intelligence: Whose Friend?" by Rashid Shaikh
"Like the burrs of burdock sticking to everything on a walk in a meadow, artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, attaching to everything. AI is an incredibly powerful technology, with its legitimate uses in research, medical sciences, weather prediction and for other complex tasks. But we hardly need it for even the simplest of internet searches, much less for outsourcing human creativity and imagination."

Reserve Your Movement Chaplaincy Session Today
My name is Chelsea McCoy and I am serving as UUMFE’s movement chaplain intern for the next few months! Movement chaplaincy is an opportunity for me to provide spiritual support, presence, and guidance pertaining to anything social justice oriented. Experiencing climate anxiety? I can support with that. Worrying about the state of the world adding weight to your shoulders? I can support with that. Want to increase your understanding and awareness of different social justice issues? I can support with that too!
The Fundraising Contractor is a part-time position, and of limited duration. UUMFE anticipates a three or four month contract for this position. The Contractor will co-develop a fundraising plan with the Board and implement the plan within four months.
Do you have finance experience and a passion for climate justice?
UUMFE is looking for a Treasurer. This is a Board-level volunteer role requiring about 10 hours per month. Ideally this person will have finance experience in a small business or non-profit and can explain financial opportunities and issues to the Board and the ED in a clear manner, as well as work with our part-time paid bookkeeper. Please email current Treasurer at treasurer@uumfe.org.
Our next discussion will take place on the evening of February 24th, and will focus on the book's next section, “Culture is the Context”. You only need to register once to attend all remaining sessions. Click here to print a poster for your congregation’s bulletin board.
This section includes contributions from organizations who are partners with UUMFE in the intersectional work of climate justice in Unitarian Universalism or interfaith work, such as the UU Climate Justice Coalition.

Spiritual Practices for Challenging Moments
There are many challenging moments in our justice work—there is no way around that. What we can do is bring our spiritual and religious wisdom—the words, songs, prayers, embodied practices and more that strengthen us to the day to day work of justice.
We're grateful to share this collection of Spiritual Practices for Challenging Moments. If you're needing a space to strengthen your spirit for solidarity in this moment, we invite you to check out these practices, reflections, and other resources that may be of use in bringing your spiritual muscles to the challenges we face in justice work.
Creating Climate Justice is not just for adults! Our Green Sanctuary activities can engage with our children and youth programs, and those programs can also shape our Green Sanctuary work. Let’s Reimagine Together not only our future but how we get there together. Come together for shared learning and mutual supports with other UUs transforming our congregations through climate justice.

Juristac is Protected: Purchase of Sargent Ranch Brings Final End to Planned Mining Project
"The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and environmental and Indigenous rights advocates are celebrating the final end of the planned mining project at Juristac, following today’s announced acquisition of an additional 2,284 acres of the historic Sargent Ranch property by the Peninsula Open Space Trust. The purchase of the property ensures that the heart of the Juristac Tribal Cultural Landscape will be protected in perpetuity, in a landmark victory for the Amah Mutsun and the international Indigenous movement to protect sacred places."
