UUMFE at Climate Week
UUMFE is going to New York! We're excited to see many of you at Climate Week, both in person and online.
We Imagine, We Create: An Environmental Festival.
Saturday, September 23, 2023 | 1PM-6PM ET
As NYC wraps up Climate Week, join Unitarian Universalists for a time to celebrate the week, lament what’s still left to be done, and imagine what is possible to create. You are all invited to attend a free UUMFE celebration. This is an all ages event. Childcare for ages three and under offered from 2:00 - 6:00 pm.
1-4 pm: Storytelling, Arts and Crafts, Live Music, Information Booths, Play, Meditation & Mindful Earth Centered Practices
4-5 pm: Jazz Vespers Worship Service Come in-person or view Vespers online. Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/8972538131
Each month, you and/or your congregation will receive a collection of materials focused on a different theme and filled with ways to help with your EMBODIMENT, EMPOWERMENT, & ENGAGEMENT in the face of environmental injustice. We hope you use these resources for worship, contemplative practice, and religious exploration in your congregation. You can find past issues here. October's theme was Descendants.
Join UU Ministry for Earth each month so we may all find time to ground, recenter, and imagine what is possible in a world in need of repair. There are readings, a short reflection, time for individual contemplation, and sharing in small groups. Together, we nourish our spirits for the work of environmental justice. To draw us more closely into alignment with Earth-based philosophies, we follow the Lunar Calendar and gather, via Zoom, on (or near) the Full Moon.
As Unitarian Universalists, our faith calls us to be agents for change. However, sometimes this work can feel lonely, draining, daunting, or disconnected from our spirituality. If you are engaged in climate justice, join with other UUs on a regular basis to share stories about your actions and strategies, restore your resilience, deepen your solidarity skills, and tap into our UU faith tradition as a source of strength. 4th Tuesdays, Monthly.
Farming for our Future: Systemic Changes for the Climate Crisis Conference
Tuesday Sep 26, 2023 | 9:30 AM - Thursday Sep 28, 2023 4:00 PM All Souls Church, Unitarian, 1500 Harvard St NW Washington, DC.
Join UUs for Just Economic Community, UUs for Social Justice, Side with Love and UU Ministry for Earth in Washington, D.C. September 26-28, 2023 to learn about our food and farming system, and on Day Three advocate with our Senators for an equitable and climate-smart 2023 Farm Bill.
Congress puts forward only every five years a must-pass farm bill that determines the kind of food and farm system we have. Congress is writing the 2023 Farm Bill NOW. So NOW is the time for our UU voices to be heard.
Farm bills address many issues UUs care about including food quality and food chain security, soil and water contamination, food deserts, equity for small-scale producers, conservation, research, crop insurance, and nutrition programs.
There will also be a Worship Service at All Souls DC on Sept. 27--Live Stream Link coming soon.
From Our Partner, UUAYCJ: Community Space for Organizers
Thurs. Sept. 14 | Monthly on 2nd Thurs. until Dec 17, 2024
8:30 – 9:30pmET/ 6:30 MT/ 7:30 CT
UUYACJ has a new offering. We’ll be holding a community space for organizers. Our first gathering will be September 14th!
As relationships are vital to build networks of care and a world of liberation, we will be creating and deepening connections with other UU young adult organizers. The space will include time for socializing, sharing our experiences in organizing, learning from our comrades, and imagining what a UU political analysis looks like. Anyone who is doing justice work (environmental or otherwise) is welcome here.
UU Young Adults for Climate Justice is getting ready to begin our church year programming. Our focuses this year are on political education, community support, and coalition building. We'll have programming such as a fall book club, movement training workshops in the spring, and drop-in virtual calls every month. If you are a young adult (18-35) that would like to become involved or stay connected Register below.
"We are in this climate crisis together with the farmers and the ranchers, the farm workers, the distributors, the scientists, the financiers, the tool manufacturers, and the consumers. We are part of the farm bill ecosystem, and it is time we demand the changes we need." - Pablo DeJesus
