Dear Environmental Justice Practitioner,
The newly formed Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Caucus of UUMFE has been hosting monthly environmental justice webinars open to everyone, since February. Register now for Session 3, on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22 at 5 PT/ 6 MT/ 7 CT/ /8-9:30pm ET! This meeting will begin with a presentation, then break into both BIPOC caucus and White-identity caucus spaces, and then close together as a full group. All are welcome to attend.
During this program, two distinguished guests who have long fought for the right of water will share their perspectives on colonization and environmental justice. Our guest speakers will be:
- Tania Aubid, an Anishinaabe water protector and a part of the movement to Stop Line #3. She recently went on a hunger strike to protect the rights of the Indigenous communities and future generations from fossil fuel companies’ incursions.
- Richard Diaz, Co-Founder of the Coalition on Lead Emergency (COLE) in Milwaukee, whose mission is to provide an environment where each source of lead exposure is eliminated. Richard has long fought for racial and economic justice for BIPOC folks and working-class people everywhere.
Also, beginning tomorrow, there is another opportunity to watch the Indigenous environmental justice feature film, The Condor & The Eagle, with UU Ministry for Earth and congregational partners. Details here: https://event.webinarjam.com/register/194/xyg1yuql
There are just two of many environmental justice centered offerings this Earth Day. You may also want to catch the “We Shall Breathe” summit today at 7 ET / 4 PT, hosted by Hip Hop Caucus, and “On the Frontline: Climate Justice for the People” tomorrow evening at 8 ET / 5 PT.
Happy Earth Day, and thank you for your commitment to environmental justice, climate justice, and the flourishing of all life.
In faith and solidarity,
Aly Tharp Program Director, UU Ministry for Earth Co-host, Environmental Justice Practitioners Network Webinar Series |
